Country Creek News Letter from the editor: Welcome to Country Creek’s Internet newsletter. This is for you, the residents of Country Creek. We will post meetings, community news and updates, photos – plus anything you want to add or comment on. If you know of someone without Internet access, let them know the newsletter will be printed out and posted at the clubhouse. If you have Internet access and didn’t get the notification that the latest one is online, email rustybriggs@bellsouth.net and we’ll be glad to add you to the list. Editor: Judy Lawrence, resident of The Glens, Country Creek The clubhouse is available for clubs and events that are headed by a resident. Check at the clubhouse to ensure a time and day is open for any ongoing meetings. For events, like a small wedding reception or birthday party, there is a $200 refundable deposit, plus a fee of $21.40 per hour. Please book as early as possible. The clubhouse is also available for club meetings. If you would like to join/start a club, call the clubhouse. We will put an invitation in the next newsletter. Now you know: The widening of Bunnell and Eden Park is scheduled to be a two-year project. Plans include a new entrance for Country Creek to be approximately 200 feet southwest of where it is now. Is your back entry remote pass not working? Stop by the clubhouse and they will check your battery. Wildlife: Don’t be surprised to see raccoons, possums, foxes, squirrels (of course) and even a bear or two. Do not feed or approach the animals. Yard sales: We have a yard sale twice a year: March 13, 14 and Nov. 6, 7. The City of Altamonte Springs will send trucks for the “leftovers” for the two weeks following the yard sales. There is no need to call them for pick-ups. Pick-ups include furniture, large limbs, etc., so this is a good time to really clean up. No hazardous materials, please. If you want to have a yard sale at another time, contact the clubhouse, as they will post a metal yard sale sign at the Country Creek entrance and a smaller one at your separate neighborhood entrance. Please give the clubhouse at least a day prior. (If you know early, there may even be time to get it in this newsletter.) You may not post your own signs. Unlike some other cities, you do not have to apply for a permit to have a yard sale. Keep Country Creek beautiful. I recently received a letter from the association that my roof needed cleaning. I had to laugh, as a few days before the letter, I noticed the roof definitely needed a good scrubbing. It didn’t get that way overnight, but I hadn’t noticed. We need to occasionally look at our property with “fresh” eyes to keep Country Creek beautiful. I called a roof-cleaning company immediately and am now proud of my spanking clean roof. Roofs will last longer if we have them professionally cleaned every few years. Plus, your air conditioning bill may be a tad lower as mildew, mold and black stains reduce the reflective value of the shingles, making your air conditioning work harder to maintain an ideal inside temperature. The problem with acorns: By the time you see the leaves of a sprouting acorn, its tap root is at least a foot long and near impossible to pull it up. You can pull them up one at a time using a pair of pliers, but that doesn’t always work, and would be an endless chore. You can try digging them out with a hoe, but it’s less frustrating to weed whack them or mow them over while they’re still young. You’ll have to keep mowing as they’ll grow back, but if anyone has a remedy, email judylawrence68@gmail.com or respond via this web site. This year’s projects: Aside from the many ongoing maintenance jobs, this year’s projects include: Clubhouse renovation Renovation of the Pavilion grounds and sidewalk area. Renovation and upgrade of the Pier's woodwork. Manufacture and placement of the road stobs in the median from the gate to the Woodridge intersection. Upgrading of the storage garage to facilitate the larger community inventory of equipment, supplies and repair parts. Manufacture of three additional custom trash containers. Painting of the open bridge. Painting of the pool decks. Conservation of the Creek banks at the covered bridge area. Cleanup of the nature walkway between the creek and The Estates. Removal of all old stumps from the Parkway median. Upgrade planting and landscape of the Parkway median. Replacement of broken sidewalk sections. |
